911E Registery Tour de Colorado Pictures

Here are the first of several pictures of the Tour De Colorado from the 911E Registry. No better way to spend a saturday than carving up the mountains of Colorado with a couple Long Hoods! ! ! !

These teaser pics are just parking lot pictures from Friday evening.

These Pictures are from Bakers Bridge. If you have ever seen the movie Butch Casidy and the Sundance Kid, right here is where they jump off the cliff into the river. Also it is impossible to tell, but one of the cars under cover in the background of these shots is a peru red '77 911S.

These are from the bottom Of Coal Bank Pass on Highway 550 as you begin to climb Molas pass. There is a 10,000 ft. sign in the background here, can anyone say Running Rich!

A lowly 912, struggles to hang with the mighty 911E's, HA HA HA.

To you R Gruppers this is our Black Audi, well aside from the yellow water pumper I was driving.

Gotta love the green Machine

After leaving Silverton, Colorado we headed north on Highway 550 to Red Mountain Pass. I don't know if it'll show up in these pictures or not, but we had a red Nissan (or whatever it was) infront of us for 5 miles, and they had to be part of the white knuckle club because we hardly got above 15 MPH. Finally the road opened up and we all got by this SOB of a car. Then we arrived in a small town named Ouray:

See if you can find the old mine shaft in this photo

Horrible cars, horrible scenery, wish I was there...

PS. the original light trims on the black 911 and the red 911 get my vote.

The 1st annual 911E registry Tour de Colorado has now come & gone.
It was a fantastic weekend. The cars , scenery and people made
it all so special !

Long distance award goes to John & Judy Dwyer
who drove all the way from Austin, TX in their 1973 911E sunroof
coupe. Close runners up were Scott Shores (AAA Seligman )
who braved the elements driving his 1971 911E Targa all the way
from Hermosa Beach, CA and Fritz & Leah Ficke who drove their
1967 911S up from Tucson, AZ

Many thanks to Rich Shaner & his lovely girlfriend Megan who
drove the offical Boxster photo car, taking some awesome shots
along our drive Saturday.

Ahh the final installment of photos.

These came between the town of Ouray and Telluride on the Dallas Divide. If you ever want to TP Ralph Laurens property here is your chance as he has a gigantic ranch all along this area. In the background is the highest concentration of 14,000 ft. peaks in the state. Pretty amazing place.

That is only 1/2 of the drive, but the camera got put away and focusing on driving became a priority.

Thanks 911e Registery for putting together such a fun event. Meeting the people behind the wheel was a real pleasure. Next time I hope I can be cruising at least an air-cooled porsche, instead of the bright yellow water pumper.

Thanks Chris (type911), for getting all of this together. You did an outstanding job. For those of you that missed it this year the Tour de Colorado 2007 is already in the planning and development stage. So clear those calendars for a long weekend in the high country of Colorado in July 2007! You wont meet a better group of people anywhere. Just try not to get caught behind Scotts targa with the top down!

Thanks for letting me tag along with the group. Being sandwitched between long hoods climbing out of Telluride was amazing. Not to mention getting to ride in a rock'n '67 911S, and even getting to drive the 1970 911E, talk about making dreams come true. I honestly had a nightmare last night of downshifting the 901 into first instead of third! Thanks again it really was the icing on the cake before I have to leave Colorado.

Rich

What a weekend!

Chris - you organized an amazing event! The roads of southwestern Colorado would make Dr Porsche smile. Third and fourth gear turns, occasionally shifting down to second for a hairpin, or kissing fifth when triple digits are reached. Simply fantastic. Big thanks to you and Holly for your hospitality.

John & Judy - thank you for driving all the way up from Austin for the event. You made me really jealous that you were able to make the drive with the windows up, frigid air blowing through the interior with that nice A/C system. I'm seriously considering getting my A/C working for next year's drive. Your aubergine E is gorgeous. And a Sportomatic too. The quintessential "doctor's car" E.

Fritz & Leah - had a blast hanging out with you, and getting to know the two of you a little better sharing my passenger seat with each of you on parts of the way home. That '67 S of yours is so damn cool! And I love it how you drive it, and drive it hard. And it sounds soooo good.

Rich - thank you for hanging out with us and taking all those great action shots! I hope you caught early 911 fever. And sorry for the lung fulls of rich-running MFI exhaust...

Chris fueling up before the drive

Stopping to admire the view

Save the mid-July 2007 weekend for the next Tour de Colorado. Especially you folks from New Mexico and Arizona who are only a few hours away -- escape the heat and experience the breathtaking green vistas of Southwestern Colorado!
