Why are these Fuchs red and silver?
Ok I am considering buying this car an 88 3.2. Neither I nor the owner know enough about Fuchs to figure out if these red
and silver Fuchs are original, painted by a PO, etc. I'd also like to know if they value to the car or detract. I thought in 88 the Fuchs's normally were black. Also on the front right that rim has some spotting on it where something is coming off. THe tires are new however and are low-profile tires. One more thing-- if anyone can point me to a tutorial or thread on the various Fuchs and what 7's and 8's mean... the whole deal about what came on certain cars, why certain rim sizes are valuable, etc... thanks in advance. Having trouble posting images but here is 1 that shows the wheels ![]() More pics http://1988porsche.shutterfly.com

7 & 8s refer to rim width. Tyical is 16 x 6 & 7, but later years (84-89) had 7 & 8s as options.

The Fuchs on the car are ether polished or chromed. If they are chromed it would make the wheels less desirable than polished but Al Reed could refinish or polish and repaint them. If there is flaking they are most likely chrome. The front wheels are 6"x16"
and the backs are most likely 7"x16" wheels. What are the tire sizes on the car? The way to tell for sure is the size is stamped on the inside the wheel on one of the petals. Do a seach on fuchs and there are many hours of reading on them. Looks like a nice car. Let us know if the PPI is good on the car.

What Michael said - Those are 16x6's and 7's. The "6 and 7" refer to the rim width. In the later cars (like this one) stock was the petals powder coated black. Lots of us have polished rims or rims finished in various finishes. Don't be put off, if you like 'em, you like 'em.
7's and 9's or even 8's and 9's are more deisreable and of course more expensive. But they are not a "got to have" and if you like the look of these, enjoy. The reference to chrome being less disireable could fill a thread all by itself...and it has....several of them! Look them up using the "Search" button. But in short, many believe - myself included that it makes the rim less desireable from a visual perspective and there is also the possiblity of a metalurgical condition known as hydrogen embrittlement that can result from the chrome having been applied without proper preheating of the rim. This can lead to cracking. That these are chipping probably indicates they were not done properly. Call Al Reed Polishing in Anaheim, Ca to get a quote on stripping and restoring or polishing these...whatever finish you like best. Good Luck.

Beautiful car!!!
The wheels can be changed or refinished at any time. If it runs as good as it looks....go for it.

I think they look very good in red and polished. It's all about what looks good to you. What KC said, if it runs as good as it looks...
Later, Mike
