Anyone know the origin of this WeltMeister Decal?

This is the decal that was on my original windshield, it was there when we bought the car in 1991. The car is a 70 model year, built in 10/69.

This decal doesn't match any of the reproductions, is this original? Could they have cut out the "1969" and "Marken" parts?

I'm guessing somebody added this sticker when the car was very new, and perhaps it's just a different sticker from back in the day.

Thoughts?

Britt

p.s. anyone know how to remove the PPG logo from that corner of a new windshield? It's raised so it's definitly painted on the inside glass, i was going to try some goo gone as a start...

Your 10/69-build car probably wouldn't have come with a championship decal. As far as I know, Porsche first used these decals in early 1970.

It looks like someone took an X-acto knife and trimmed off the commemorated years ... it was originaly a circular decal, not notched!

The FIA World Manufacturers Championship was what was being commemorated, and your decal was retrofitted to your car ...

I agree with early s man, it is a trimmed 1970 decal, what is missing is Marken on the left side and 1969 on the right side. It should read Porsche Marken Weltmeister 1969

Just a razor blade will take the PPG off, probably very little need for chemicals.

So it's correct for me, and my specific car, i guess. Same reason I have my old ratty carpet, if the car gets too perfect it won't be the same!

Sounds kinda silly to say it out loud.
