double 'wax on'

in the last issue of the Groit's Garage catalog, there was a tip about wax application. The recommendation was to apply a coat of wax on day 1, then on day 2 re-apply another coat (without removing yesterday's layer), let new wax cloud up, then buff off as normal.

I tried it this week in prep for a Sunday concours, and it worked very well. my 29 year old paint exhibited none of the cloudiness I usually have to work out, and the shine looks about a foot deep.
I was concerned that buffing off the 2 layers would be twice a much work, but that was not the case.

is this a new thing, or has it been around a while?

Hi,
You mean you don't buff out the coat applied on day 1 before applying more wax on day 2? Thanks.

nope, just re-apply over the haze from the first coat.
I was using Mother's California Gold, Carnuba paste.

Very good insight... I too would have assumed that this would be a real PITA. I bet the key is to keep the car in a cool garage in the interim rather than in the heat which seems to make wax removal difficult.

Additionally, a lot of Carnauba waxes like a week or so to "cure". Then another coat on top of that creates an incredible layer of protection. I used to do this everytime I waxed (4-5 times per year) when I owned a black car. Nowadays I own three cars (2 silver, 1 white) including the SC and cumulative total waxing is 2-3x per year. I'm so lame these days.

Wouldnt the 2nd layer of wax just sit on top of the old dry layer? Makes more sense to me to apply another coat after buffing (1 week ltr).

sorry guys, I'm just telling what worked for me last night.

Can't answer the hypotheticals.

but, I can say the P-cars listed below my name still have their original finish, have been heavily de'd and ax'd, are not garage queens, and have never been trailered to an event.

If you want to try something a step further go to Autopia.org and search on spit polish (and no you don't use your own spit)
