RSR Strut Top Spring Hats
I've got a set of RSR front coil-over struts with the raised spindles that bought some time ago for my 914-6 project. They came bare with the inserts and the bottom sprint perches. I have been looking for a pair of top spring perches or hats for them for some time. There are some out there - produced by a very well-known company in Porsche circles but I didn't like their placement of the thrust/roller bearings to allow for the twisting of the strut/spring assembly when steering the car. Their solution calls for the bearings to be placed on the bottom spring perch, rather out in the open and unprotected.
Within the last couple of weeks, I stumbled across a different design by Rebel Racing Products. Their bearings are actually incorporated into the top spring hat and protected by an o-ring seal. Well, I ordered a pair and really like what I got. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1158716940.jpg The pieces are nicely machined and the design sold me. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1158717005.jpg I've got a second 914 ('74 2.0L) that I am going to be doing a 5 lug conversion on and after seeing these pieces, I'll be ordering their coil-over kit that can be mounted to any Bilstein strut housing to convert it to coil-over. I have no affiliation with Rebel Racing Products but when you find a good thing that works, pass it on. Their website is: www.rebelracingproducts.com Dee |
Clint Smith (Rebel Racing)has engineered some other nice products and offers great value on the strut modifications he provides. I highly recommend his services. He raised and gussetted and painted my front Bilsteins. Had he offered the coil over package at the time, I may have explored that further, too.
I use his bumpsteer kit, as well. Doug |
I have the "other ones" and they work very well. However, I am interested in using these on the top as well. Provided they would work with my monoballs.
The bearing make a noticable differnce in steering effort as well. Cheers |
