Oil Tank Empty?
Working on a 72 with a 3.2 transplant that's been sitting for a few years.
I went to remove the old oil and the tank was empty. There were several quarts when I removed the motor drain plug, came within a few quarts of filling my 12 quart drain pan. The PO said he used to turn the motor over without starting it every month or so until the battery died. Would this account for most of the oil being in the motor? Should I be real concerned? I squirted oil in the cylinders and the motor turned over quite easily by hand, did that twice and put the plugs back in.

Jerry,
Perfectly normal for an engine that has set up for years! You will probably also find a quart or two in the muffler ... a potential source of smoking after the engine has run for a minute or two! I suggest pulling the muffler, draining into oil salvage container, then rinse out with Varsol or similar solvent.
