96' 911 Fuel tank lid problems

The fuel tank lid on my 96' 911 doesn't "lock". Instead it opens easily with just a finger, without using the lever inside the car. I always use the lever but I don't like the fact that it CAN be opened by anyone outside the car. Just last week, at a shopping mall parking lot, somebody took the gas cap and left the lid open. I was shocked - I thought the worst, like somebody put something in the fuel tank...

Is this a DIY project or should it be delegated to a P mechanic? I tried to tighten everything but it still doesn't "lock". Thanks in advance.

I have a 'feeling' that the average mechanic wouldn't know any more about that fuel door than you or I would! I certainly don't claim any knowledge of the post-'80's cars, but a body shop that has 911 experience seems like the most logical choice to fix that problem, if an hour or two of experimentation doesn't get the job done! Good luck!
