Locking up the distributer to reduce turbo lag.

I have an 1986 Turbo, and I've been told that by locking up the distributer, i.e. stopping the dist from advance and retard, and setting it to 26 degrees, will reduce turbo lag !! and give more bottom end torque !!! is this true..??
If it is, what are the disadvantages ???

Never heard of it, and it makes me nervous. Any time you mess with the ignition of an engine, especially with a turbo engine, you run the risk of detonation. There are other ways to improve low-end grunt/turbo lag that are safer. More expensive, but safer. What sort of exhaust are you using? Are you running stock compression? Do you have a long neck intercooler?

Bruce, I'm running Standard Pistons (7:1 I believe) Re profiled Cams, s/s headers, s/s sports exhaust - no cat and Std Turbo and Intercooler 1.0 Boost spring on the wastegate.....
Can't think of anything else.....
