excessive heat from sport muffler

I just installed a great sport muffler. Sounds great, looks great,-------but lots of heat transferring to rear bumber and even porsche reflector. Is this common? Plenty of space (3") between muffler and underside of body. thanx r.t.

Is the heat shield between the muffler and the rear bumper still in place?

Sport muffler should be no different that a stock muffler.
It does get hot back there....
Possible you just never noticed it before?

Bumper never got hot. Talked to my bosch trained porsche mechanic in Santa Barbara. He's been working on Porsches for over 30 years. He says to get it off before I lose my paint. I have perfect black original paint. r.t.

How does f/g rear bumper stand up to heat from turbo

This link goes into the heat management discussion of turbo motors as well as NA's w/ high heat mufflers....

Cheers,

I put a reflective aluminized, heat shield on the back(inboard) side of the license panel on my '72 with a sport muffler. Find a race shop and get some of the stuff, worked for me. YMMV

Some great ideas. 1 put in fab speed euro pre-mufler. Some hp gain. 2 put in Steve Wong chip alot of hp gain. 3 sport mufler minimal hp gain some weight loss. I am going to reinstal stock muffler and see what I can get fabricated here in Bakersfield to shield body from heat. thanx for ideas

The material of the muffler will help or cause more heat to build up. stainless will not transfer heat like a mild steel muffler. I have seen hundreds of installs and a flowmaster for example makes it very hot back there. I have very nice black paint on my car and have never had anyissues with to much heat from my muffler. it is very possible your engine is running different with all the changes so it could be running hotter EGT's with freer flowing. Very important to consider this when dealing with aftermarket chipc, and exhaust. call steve wong. he can help explain all this
