Roll Cage in a Dual Purpose Car
Is this an absolute No No? Has anyone come up with any kind of alternative to a simple roll bar that will allow for some A-Pillar protection without being a serious risk to head injury in a car that is driven on the street on the weekends?
Thanks

This has beed discussed extensively on the track forum.
Some say it's an absolute no-no without a helmet. I've driven my 944 race car on the street plenty of times. While it's true that the roll cage I installed to protect myself could possibly kill me, I think that driving with a cage, one-piece racing seat, five-point harness, yada yada is much safer than riding a motorcycle. Look at Jeep Wranglers. They come from the factory with a cage, including the nicknamed "headache" bars. I'm thinking of a roll bar in the 911. It's only used for autocrossing, and an occasional DE. No need for a full cage. |
