Can you tell if your engine has the tensioner upgrades?

Hello all,
I've recently purchased a '75 911s with virtually no maintenance history I was wondering if you can tell without disassembly if my car has the timing chain upgrade.

Also it still has the thermal reactor in tact. I don't have a problem with emissions and would like to remove it. What all is involved in disconnecting this and removing it?

Thanks in advance,
Randy

Yes. Look for a fairly thin metal line that enters the cam chain covers through a banjo fitting on either side - you won't miss them.

Hi,

You can tell if you have the Carrera tensioner upgrade if you can see this on the right side of your engine:

and a similar line on the left side.

You should be aware that there is a school of thought that says upgrading the to later "turbo" tensioners, safety collars, and wider chain wheels would also be nearly as benefical as going to Carrera tensioners. If you are going to buy the parts however, the cost is a wash.

I am not certain what you need to remove the thermal reactors but there should be others that can help you.

Well it looks like mine has the upgrade. I thought that it did, but I wasn't sure. It looked as if the shrouding on the front side of the engine was notched to allow the oil line to go down to the timing cover. You would have to think due to the age that it would have been done. It also has the eleven blade fan that seems to be an essential for the 2.7.
Thanks Harry The photo really helped.
