I can still pull and test injectors in my '83 with the metal lines. It's important to disconnect the injector first, pull the injector and then reinstall it on the metal line so it sprays into a jar. Run the pump(s) to ensure the system is up to pressure (you might have to 'hotwire' them. Then turn on the key, reach into the air box and lift the airflow sensor plate. The injector should spray. CIS that is. If it's getting a blue spark at TDC, it should fire.

RarlyL8,

It is a 930/66 with CIS.

If you would like, I'll send you some pics of the old air-filter system. It's a pretty scary setup; I'd be amazed if it filtered anything.

I have an additional fuel injector mounted on the Intercooler neck controlled by a Greddy unit. So I hope the PowerFlow unit will slide underneath this.

I have a Porsche Wrench coming over next week to help out. I hope it's something basic that I'm overlooking. Since I'm not familiar with the ElectroMotive units timing is a concern. Unfortunately I can image timing being that far off since the car was running fine.

Admittedly I am new to Porsches, and surely they are different, but many cars use cam chains and I am not sure I can recall any story about internal engine parts reconfiguring themselves without breaking. If the cams are turning, I'd be verys surprized if compression is your problem.

I think someone earlier in this thread reminded that just three things are needed. Compression. Gas/air. Spark. Compression should almost always be ruled out. Ignition is the most common problem. Or it used to be anyway. Bet it's something simple.

We'll enjoy hearing the end of this story.

I'm not sure of the exact figures, but you need to be within 20:1 to 8:1 air fuel ratio. If it isn't that, she won't fire. Sounds like something dumb, like an air leak, or a poor conection in the fi system. I'll likely be facing similar gremlins in this fall when I try to get my 85 930 project going. It hasn't run for 5 6 years!

Duh? I'm wasn't thinking. You were on the right track with the ether since you say the spark is good. But even ether won't fire a wet plug! So get rid of the gas, take the electric away from the pumps. Then try your ether trick when you are sure you have spark. If this works, then its probably too much fuel or bad fuel. Let us know the results, sometimes its so simple its embarrassing.
