Induction Options for 911T
I have just acquired a 1973 911T/E that is running Weber carbs.
On a previous post, they were split opinions on whether to return it to CIS, MFI or keep with the Webers. Would appreciate thoughts on pros / cons of each.

That's easy, whatever it came with originally. Make sure you have the right heads for it first.

If the car is all original and has matching numbers then it will be worth more at re-sale time with the original type induction.
Is the car originally a 73.5 CIS T? If so are the Webers the only mod done to the motor? In otherwords were any changes made as to the cams or pistons? If the rest of the motor is stock CIS then carbs don't do much in the way of increasing performance without additional mods. They just tend to burn more gas. Give us some more info so we can give you better feedback.

Unfortunately until I can get hold of the previous owner and their records, I do not know if any other changes apart from webers and SSI have been done.
Is there a way to identify the heads ?

Difficult to measure valve sizes in an assembled engine, but you could access the intake/exhaust ports and measure. I believe 911T heads have 32mm ports. Compare port specs with other heads, then extrapolate the valve sizes available for the different heads.
You can determine cam timing by measuring valve lift with an indicator on the valve retainer. Sherwood |
