Early 911 Highbeams
This may sound like a dumb question, but I am puzzled by a recent finding in my headlight upgrade to my '70 911S.
It appears, through the illumination of a blue light on the dash, that the highbeams are actuated by pulling the turn signal level TOWARDS the driver. This seams counter intuitive and counter to all other cars I have driven that operate the highbeams by pushing the lever AWAY from the driver. The headache is that with my Momo hub extension it is difficult to conveniently reach the turn signals when driving at night since the turn signal lever is some 5 inches away from the steering wheel. Can someone please verify that this is the correct configuration? Thanks. ------------------ John 73 911S |

Yes it is. High beams do come on when pulled towards the driver.

On my car, a 75 911s, which I assume has the same mechanism as your car, pulling the lever towards the driver will flash the high beams and pushing away puts them on permanently. The push away clicks into position, with the end of the lever somewhere between 1/2 and 1 inch away from where it sits when the lights are on low beam.

John,
I owe you an apology. I had just gotten out of another car when I responded to your question. The 73 911 high beams should go on when you push the lever towards the dash. Sorry about that. marc w. |
