Alarm sounder and black box

Hi.

Does anyone know where the alarm sounder is on an 82 SC? Sounds like inside the trunk on the left side, but I'm having trouble pinpointing it.

Also, there is a black box on the right side of my engine compartment forward of the oil tank that doesn't seem to be connected to anything. It looks like it has a vacuum fitting, but I can't figure out what it might be for. Everything on the car seems to work fine.

I did finally get the speedometer working again, turns out the contacts were loose after so much connecting and disconnecting. I can also calibrate it without dismantling it now thanks to a small access hole I drilled in the back of the housing. Thanks to everyone for their help and advice.

One more thing, does anyone know of a place to get just the cruise control cable rather than the entire assembly, other than the dealer. The part number is 911.617.124.02. most used parts places seem to only have the entire assembly.

Thanks,

Olivier
82 SC

The black box is some kind of vacuum bottle. I believe that at least one hose from it connects to the cruise control thing on the firewall, behind the heater motor. Two hoses (one small and one large) connect to the cruise unit. I don't recall how many attach to the black bottle. If you like, I can go look closer and get additional info.

So, my speedometer can be adjusted at the speedometer? I may be tempted to do that, sinc I believe it fibs. The "speedometer check station" near me is a five-mile long stretch where the speed limit is 70 and the cars go 75-80. I'm NOT going to drive it at 60 until there is less traffic, but I think my speedo lies. Adjustment is at the gauge though, huh?

Yeah, you can adjust the electronic speedos in the gauge. After messing with mine while rebuilding it, it was reading 50% high. Every mile post on the highway was indicating 1.5 miles on the odometer. That should be the best way to check, use the marked miles on any interstate against your odometer or trip meter. Very easy way to check, and it doesn't require a timer or maintaining a constant speed. I pulled over, pulled the gauge, made a guess of an adjustment to the screw on the circuit board through the access hole I drilled, and it happened to be dead on after the first try. The adjustment takes the smallest size flathead screw driver. If you don't want to take the gauge apart, the hole is almost exactly where the glass in the parking light indicator bulb would be when inserted into the gauge. I also had to bend part of the housing that holds that bulb out of the way of the screwdriver, but it did not have any adverse affect on the seating of the bulb.

Oh. I almost forgot. I took the buzzer (the annoying door/key buzzer thing) relay out of my car. Yes, it is in the trunk, approximately above the driver's right knee. Just touch them while it's buzzing, you'll know which one. This upgrade is really complicated. You grasp the offending buzzer relay, and pull firmly but gently rocking slightly back and forth until it comes out. You can then store it in your glove compartment for a few years before placing it in long term storage, or you can place it directly into LTS.

I must be tired, I'm trying to be funny.

Superman,
the black box to the right of the engine compartment foward of the oil sump is a vaccuum unit for cruise control? Could it be for something else? I didn't know I had cruise control for my car...did they have cruise control for manual transmission cars or just sportomatics? Thanks!
