 Carrera Chain Rattle
The chains rattle on my 87 on startup only. My guess is that it is related to a relaxing in the tensioners until oil pressure builds up. Does anyone know if there is an O ring in the tensioner piston or if a check valve is used. In either event can the tensioners be opened and inspected or is the only option to change them out. A kind of low grade troubleshooting. Ned Monaghan |

Ned, I have the pressure fed update on my SC and just a couple of weeks ago my right chain started making noise. I don't know what caused it but I now think that it goes away after the engine fully warms up. What could cause this? Anyone? ------------------ Leland Pate ___79 SC Targa |

I don't really know what to tell you guys, because I haven't done any post-mortem examinations on failed pressure-fed tensioners! All that I know is that Bruce Anderson says they can and do fail, but that the failure rate and database of incidents is still too sparse for causes to be certain, yet. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

Valerie; See the 'chain noise' post on this bbs from Leland, dated 6/12, last post 6/15 for a host of other ideas. They do fail and I suspect that there will be more and more related posts. |
