Looking for Kuhmo Tires!
I heard good things about Kuhmo (spelling?) tires but they are out of stock at The TireRack and indefinetly backordered. I have a track event July 8th and need to pick up some track rubber. Does anybody know of any other national tire dealers that sell these and have them in stock? Discount Tire Direct did not carry them. I know there are other brands, but for such limited use, the Kuhmo fits the need. Also, is buying tires heat cycled worth the extra $15 per tire. Thanks ahead of time to all you 911 track addicts.

The PO put a new set of Kumho Ecsta directional tires on my car before he sold it. May have a different name over your way. I think he was going the budget performance route. These are supposed to be as good as this brand gets, but I'm not too keen. They would have been torn off a while ago had they not been brand new.
I'm just encouraging them to wear away a little faster to force me to spring for a new set. They are not V rated, go out of balance too easily, and the local onetime Kumho dealer says he will not stock them anymore because of too many complaints from customers. They do give me very neutral handling, and I can easily set up four wheel drifts which are fun and controlable, but the downside is not too much grip. Plus the fact they were made in Korea fulls me with suspicion for some reason. If you have heard good things about them, please tell me so I can stop appologising for having them grace my Fuchs to anyone who looks too hard. Porsches deserve better, so do I! |

The Victoracers are definitly worth 1-2 seconds off your autocross times(your mileage may vary depending upon driver consistency). Tire Rack is typically the least expensive and all the SCCA guys here locally say that the heat cycle is a good thing. The tires seem to hold up longer when properly cycled.
