Early Car (Trunk) Fuel Tubing (w/pics)

Can someone please educate me?

The large leg of the Y above comes from the top of the tank.

The small leg (above) goes here: is this an overflow/drain?

The large leg goes to this "module" (above) under the windshield.

What are these for? I am assuming these are not:
- the main fuel lines
- vapor recovery (since I can see the charcoal cannister and it uses fiber hose)

When I fill up with fuel I smell a lot of vapor and I'm trying to narrow down the source. The tubing in the photos above is rock hard BTW.

be sure to read the info on what type hoses to use - ordinary PVC is a no-no

Hi,

The under dash tank collects the fumes until they can be exhausted through the charcoal canister.

The tank in the fender collects liquid to allow it to evaporate and tehn go to the charcoal canister.

I just redid my hoses. figure on an afternoon of "fun".

I did an Autocross this weekend and I was suprised at how much liquid was in the hoses at the end of the event. When I got home (20 minute drive) 95% of the liquid was gone.

Just curious, why dangerous? Because they appear dry and probably hard?

That is what mine looked like just before the large section of tubing on the fuel tank fell off during refueling. On the way home a quantity of fuel was sloshed out of the tank and into the well where the fuel tank sensor is located. Fortunately, the smell was strong and I decided to immediately check it out. The vapor line fromt he top of the tank was a few inches away from it's connection and the tubing was so hard and shrunk that it would not seal.

& brittle...

does NOT have to be liquid fuel -- vapor + spark from battery = !!

and the vapor is harmful for you to breathe - mainly due to benzene
