Starting Problem
Hi all, I drove my 1980 SC all summer with no problems. My starter starting not working intermitantly over the summer so I push started her every so often and made sure to park on hills. When I got back to Atlanta, I parked the car and left it sitting for two weeks. Then the starter turned over extremely fast as if there was no compression, and then as I left of the starter the car fired, ran extremely rough, then died. I tried it several more times, expecting that is just needed to run for a while, I decided to drive it. It stalled out at every light and got harder and harder to start. I limped back to the parking garage and parked it. I have not have time to play with it but when I tried starting it again two weeks later, the starter solenoid just clicked and would not turn it over. I am probably going to clean the starter terminals later on this weekend, and maybe end up replacing the starter later on. I do not have access to a good lift in Atlanta, so any good tips on replacing the starter? Also, what could make my car run so roughly? Its got good spark, it burns a little bit of oil but does not seem to be too rich especially becuase it started doing it only when I parked the car for two weeks.
