Closing the book on the Yellow 2.7 Carrera :-(

I just spent some time on the phone with the true owner of the Carrera. So far I had only talked to his friend who was trying to sell the car.

To be brief, he owed the IRS some money and put the Carrera and his '87 Vette up for sale. Well, the Vette sold so he's not so desperate for money. He said he would still sell the car but didn't sound interested when I mentioned $12K.

The sad thing is this guy knows absolutely nothing about Porsches (by his own admission) He saw the car at the auction and thought it looked nice. Arrggghh!!!!

The search goes on...

Go with the flow. Things "fall through" for a reason.

Lee,

A guy in our local PCA just bought an '82 SC with 60K miles for $13K, and I don't think that's too uncommon. It can be done! There are so many sources to look at; carbuyer.com, autotrader.com, the many PCA regional sites with online classified ads, and numerous other sites.

I am at work and don't have access to my huge list of Porsche links, but there are some really great sites that search *thousands* of ads around the country. You will be overwhelmed. Keep lookin'!

I agree. If it were meant to happen it would have. I guess I liked this car because it was different. Oh well, the guy has my number. Maybe the engine will self destruct and I can pick it up dirt cheap some day.

I check the ads daily. Honestly, I've tried car shopping long distance and it wasn't a pleasant experience. When living in Atlanta, I flew to Miami to look at three different cars. All were way over-rated by their owners.

On the phone: Does the air work? "Yes"

In person: "Well it works, but when the guy stole the radio he cut all of the wires going to the controls. If you just solder all this back together it should work."

On the phone: Is there any rust? "No"

In person: "Oh, you think those little bumps are rust?"

I'll be delivering a car to Fresno in a few weeks for my wife to use when she is working there. I will probably spend a day or two in LA looking at cars. There seems to be a lot there.

Lee, we all know what a pain in the A$$ a long dist.car buy can be. Also with a used 911 that can cost some bucks you want to be as sure as you can be. Get involved with other PCA members in other parts of the country/state. See if any are willing to do a scout in advance for you.I'll bet some are. So Throw out a line we are willing to help. I live in central New Jersey if I can help drop me an E-mail.I love shopping for 911's even if it is not for me!
