911 and a tow dolly

Does anyone know of any issues with using a tow dolly for transporting a 911 vs a trailer? I am planning on a 5 hr trip and wonder if any harm could come to the transmission, obviously it would be in neutral. I only have a Ford Ranger and it's not stout enough to tow a trailer.

Thanks, Luke911

I hauled my 911 home from the mid west back east with a rental dolly
with my 5 series BMW and it pulled it perfectly.

I put the rear (heavy motor end) on the dolly and locked the steering wheel ( pulled the key but tied it to the steering wheel just incase ) and tied the steering wheel with rops just incase the steering lock broke for whatever reason the steering wheel would not turn, or change directions ( having the steering wheel change directions on the highway would be no fun).

I pulled it like this for maybe 3000- 3500 miles and it went perfect.... I did constantly check the straps, chains, hitch ect...

For your 500 miles as long as your hitch is solid and not rusted I would say your good to go just be sure that hitch is SOLID.

I don't know about your model, but Porsche limits the towing of mine ('78 SC) to something like 20 miles. If you have the manual, take a look I wouldn't be surprised if there's a limit on how far you should tow the car.

Edit: I think herman's right, towing it backwards with the rear wheels on a dolly shouldn't cause a problem.

I've seen track guys trailer 911's this way - even all four wheels on the ground.

I have a friend who dollies his SC all over from track to track. He puts the rear wheels in the dollly and locks the steering wheel down. If you have a front spoiler or a silly low car you could have issues.
