What is the black piece with 2 yellow wires in between the heater levers?
What is it and what direction should it be in relation to the levers... Forward, rearward, above? I took this all apart and need to get it back. Stupid me-no pics.

Thanks. Is it supposed to be behind the levers (ie toward the rear of the car)?

in front. the tab on it's metal retaining bracket inserts into a slot behind the pivot bolt. a fiber washer separates each piece in the stack.

How would you lower the levers with it in front?

trust me, it goes in front. it won't even function in the rear. when the levers are down, they push the taller contact away from the short one, which breaks the ground for the blower relay. if you have the spacing correct, each lever works one set of contacts nicely. you can't even tighten the nut without bending something the way you have it. that angled tab goes into a slot behind the pivot bolt. look for the slot, after you remove the switch, which is most likely covering it.

I'd love to see pics of this thing installed, mine is just dangling.

Here's how it goes in.
If you look at the picture in my post above, I had the two metal pieces (one has the switch on it) backward. In the picture below (courtesy of Pelican), one of the metal pieces is red. The other metal piece, two to the right of the right lever (actually on the left in the picture) interlocks with it in the back. The bent solid part of the red piece fits inside the shorter prongs on the other piece. The switch mounts on the longer bent prongs on the front of that piece. The prongs bend towards the handbrake. Note: we are talking about the non-automatic heat setup in the picture—the one with two levers. The two things missing from this picture are the handbrake housing and the switch. The D Head shaped bolt goes through the housing before you install the first fiber washer. Then you install a fiber washer in between each metal piece, except after the red one in the picture, where you install the metal washer. After you put it all together, make sure the two levers contact the metal strips on the switch. The switch will be below the levers in front of them ![]()
