Summer fronts, all-season rears::tires

Does that seem... wrong?

I have BF Goodrich Gforce Sports on the front (summer), and a friend is recommending bridgestone potenza g 009s for the rear (all-season, 205-55-16). Only the rear ones are worn and need replacing.

The reviews on the tire are great, but I'm torn with having such different tires on the front/back. I don't race, but drive pretty spirited in northern California (some rain, no snow). It's a stock 82 911SC.

Anyone care to warn me off the purchase?

Thanks,

Babak

I would stick the same style, brand, speed rating all around. You can discover some goofy handling traits by mixing tires.

Yes, I'd definitely not mix and match tires that are that dissimilar.

I'd use the exact same tires if possible, or if not then use the closest you can get.

I once had Bridgestone RE730's front and rear. WHen the rear wore out they didn't make 730's any more, but they had replaced them with 750s. I could tell a difference.

Thanks for the consult - I'll see if I can find the same ones. Kinda excited to feel the difference after a first alignment (some uneven, though tire symmetrical, wear on the old rear tires).

I've been through that scary experience, felt like the back tires had 5 PSI in them on the freeway. I mixed the same brand but different speed ratings and tire models. I swapped out the rears for the a proper match to the front and the car regained all it's stability.

I would never have believed it without actually living it. I've driven Mustangs with ET Streets on the back and skinnies in front, 4x4's with Thornbirds in front and Boggers in back, never a problem. The 911 is just finicky about matching tires.

I've just bought a pair of AVS Sports to replace the worn out rear tires on my car and I really thought hard about replacing the fronts as well even though the car already has AVS Sports all around. I guess I'll find out this weekend if the Ohio weather is kind to me.
