Any chance a clutch adjustment can help?

Ihave an 85 915 tranny. The clutch travels very high off the ground before the car starts to move. Recently it has gotten worse and has made taking off in first gear difficult with out nearly stalling the car. I can shift all other gears fine. The clutch does not slip including pulling steep hills in 4th or 5th gear at low RPM's. I climbed under the car and notice that the gap is 2.5 millimeters. If this were tightened it to 1 mm would that really make a difference? Is it is possible it is the clutch helper spring with my symptoms. Please advise I'm under my car this afternoon.

Did you mean the clutch pedal is close to the floor at take off? The 2.5 mm is too much need to be closer to 1mm. Thanks Mark

upon closer inspection the arm was 2.5 mm but the actual set screw was zero distance. I have adjusted closer to 1. Do I need to do any other adjustments to get a little more life out of this clutch?

Wow. 1.5 mm adjustment made a big difference in my 2 mile ride around neighborhood. The clutch caught started moving the car lower to the floor and I did not have the hesitation I started with.
