engine hood opening needed if no A/C?
I had a question, If I dont have the A/C system in my 1982 porsche 911 sc, and the opening on the engine lid doesnt have the A/C condensor attached underneath it any more, is there still use for it? I am asking because I want to creat an intake system with the filters exposed and dont want the rain to get into the engine as much, so I wanted to cover the opening and create an alternate way for the water to run down the car. Please let me know what you think.

more knowledgeable folks can discuss the intake issues, but I'd throw the fact out there that this is an air/oil cooled engine, so having airflow to the engine compartment itself is important :-)

That big ole fan has to suck air from someplace, you can't very well block off the only source of cool air and still expect the cooling fan to work.
If you provide another source for cool air that is sufficient to feed the cooling fan AND the intake, then you don't need the factory opening in your decklid anymore. |

Is the engine not surrounded by a kind of a seal so that the cooling air (and intake) that can only come from the grille and is guaranteed to be cooler than engine compartment air has to exit the way it is directed to by the fan, through the cooling fins?

Porsche deck lids had vents way before A/C was invented, and not just for looks..

You want to totally change the way Porsche engineered the 911 engine to cool because you don't want the engine getting wet????
