Talking Learning to shift outta 1st gear at over 5000RPM's in my SC

Okay, so many months ago I posted a post that got slammed as i was passing on info I thought would help. That there is little to no reason to shift outta 1st gear over 3500-4000 rpm's and that it could damage a tranny.

I went through a complete TRANNY rebuild and dropped over $4,000 to do it, the shop suggested that I shifted before the RPM's were too high.

many ppl slammed my post (rightly so) as I guess this is just a personal preference thing. Apparently thetruth is that once the gear is engaged shifting at high rpm's does no damage at all. And that shifting beyong 6,000 RPM is just a waste since there is no more added power beyond the redline.

anyways now I am shifting in the 6K range and i love it! I think I was missing out before. But ONE QUESTION-WHENEVER THIS HAPPENS I SMELL A MILDEWY OR MOLDY WEIRD SMELL? WHAT THE HELL CAN THAT BE?

The smell may be a slipping clutch.

Not sure about your smell but perhaps clutch. is it new with the $4000 repair? that could be it too. New parts often emit a smell until broken in.

One caution, shifting at higher revs in first gear CAN get dangerous if you "overpower" the rev limiter . I am not saying you are or that you will, just want to caution people of that. The rev limiter cannot always keep up with you in first gear......

yes clutch is new. what is the rev limiter? I've heard this term before.
I make sure to shift before 6500 RPM's though, and I should say that this type of driving is maybe 2-3 times a day 3-4 days per week. Not all the time. But it was fun this morning to get a bit sideways twice (BIIG smile on my face)!
