If I want an ST Look, can I use Turbo Front Fenders/Flares?

The subject says it all...I might go with an ST look for my little race car. Can I just bolt on some turbo fenders? I have SC flares in the rear.

Thanks!

The Turbo fenders are for short-hood cars (first 930 was in '76.) You need the long-hood 2.8RSR fenders for an ST look. Bumpers and turnsignals are totally different on the Turbo.

ahhhhhhhh, right. Good point. I'm sure those are easy to find...and really cheap. ;)

It has been said here that SC flares will work on the front fenders turned backwards. Haven't had a chance to try it. Also, there are some other car flares that work well. The models escape me, but maybe that will trigger someone's memory. Might have been one of the VW models. Again, think rear off another car as well as front for a good match to the ST look.

Well Milt, now my priorities have shifted a bit to just getting 'er back on the road. Sigh...

Yes, sorry to say. However, no time like right now to go ahead with the ST look.

Rennspeed carries them for $675/pair in fiberglass. http://www.rennspd.com/P_Detail.asp?PID=669&Task=STD They are the same molds as the '69-73 RSR 9" fenders: http://www.rennspd.com/P_Detail.asp?PID=464&Task=STD

I have heard the same thing as Milt about welding on a backwards SC flare on the front, but the arch profile would have to be modified to look anything like the ST/RSR flare--the lip has a much wider flat on the RSR type than the SC rear has--very similar to the 930 flare profile.

Sorry to hear about your road incident. :( Hope everything comes out OK in the end, maybe even better!

TT

Thanks Tom. It may have spawned a new RSR...we'll see. :)

This picture (found in another thread) seems like they used the SC flares backwards on the front, doesn't it? Maybe I'm just seeing things, the picture is quite small.
It's something I've been thinking about combined with a backdate on my SC...

You'd have to do some extra bodywork to fit on a longnose fender though.

I know you are thinking of a RSR conversion after your incident emptyo but my guess is there are others (like me) thinking about this option.. I hope to find/see some better pictures of a car with backwards SC flares up front.

It's either that or I have to find some source of steel ST flares for the back and fit turbo/RSR flares up front.

How about an RS 3.0 Replica? According to excellence it's supposed to be "the next big thing."

rennch 10-03-2006 12:45 PM

Actually, I'm thinking 2.8 RSR. :)
