Replacing rear main seal - suggestions welcome
Last winter, I replaced the clutch on my 70 S and while I was in there, I decided to replace the main seal (even though it didnt seem to be leaking.
After approx 1000 miles on our drive to California this spring, the rear main started puking oil. I have it apart agian and am getting ready to put the new seal in. Anyone have any tips on how to increase my chances that this one will work? Thanks in advance

I will post just to get a bump. I need to change the main seal on my 2.2 this fall so I would like to hear some suggestions as well.

Thanks,
Makes me paranoid as I did all this when I installed the seal last winter and it leaked like a sieve. Try it again I guess.

try and get another seal from another supplier
possibly he had a bad batch, or bought a large bunch and they were on the shelf to long... had the same thing in the 944 place where i park/work on my 911 kept having RMS leaks , till he ditched his stock , and got new seals from different supplier

Sometimes there's a bit of a wear spot on the crank where the seal rides and then it won't seal properly. Run your fingernail over the crank after you remove the old seal to check.
If there is one you may have to install the seal in a slightly different position to get it to work. However these usually leak because they were installed slightly cocked and the case tears at the outer edge of the seal.
