69-73 Steering column bushing fix - Where to buy
 

Guys could use some help again....

I bough ( from Pelican of course) the steering wheel column bushing fix but after tearing my steering column apart and seeing that it TOTALY does not fit I called them up ( awsome service BTW) ended up having the 74-up bushing fix kit.

So after a while of looking, they dont offer anything for the 69-73 cars

After deciding to pull the steering column out of my 72 for my 73 ( which is a seroius PITA) I notice a small bushing in my 72. In the pic the 74 Pelican part is the tall part and the 69-73 part is the large diameter part

Does anybody know where to get this part? I might send this pic to the Pelican sales guy I spoke with yesterday just to show him that it does exist heh,heh.

The early cars don't have the same problem that the '74- cars do. There is no plastic bushing to fall apart.

When an early column is sloppy, it is usually due to improper assembly, or missing parts.

The piece in the pics should go in piggyback over the bearing with the flat side up. Then the spring must be in place over the snout on the underside of the steering wheel.

I just went through the same thing on my 67.

You are looking for part #914-347-711-00-OEM

Pelican does carry it, but it took me 2 months to get the part out of Germany. You can also try a local Porsche Dealer.

Went through he same thng on my 70 about 5 years ago - bought the wrong bushing. I remember fixing it by making a shim out of an aluminum beer can - Miller light, I think. Anyway, I'd forgotten all about it until I read your message - just went to the car and checked it - no play in the wheel after another 5 years and 40k miles!

You apear to have the bushing. If you are missing the spring, perhaps one of the dismantlers (EASY, PArts Heaven, DC Automotive etc) can help you out.
