Which carpet kit?
I'd like to replace the carpet in my 66'. Inside the cab as well as inside the trunk, but there are so many choices, it's hard to figure out. The tiny photos don't help me much either. Could someone please comment on the different types of material, what you have used, and why? For arguments sake, lets take the price out of the discussion. Thanks in advance!

I believe period correct for your 66 is the very fine wool square weave.
The domestic guys either don't carry it or their quality is pretty poor. I liked the square weave so much that I put it in my 80SC - looks great. Note that the square weave as your original is a Lot stiffer than the more modern velour crap. For the best quality I recommend these guys in Stuttgart ( !! ) where I got mine: http://www.cabrio.de/

I'm interested in this also. More info might be found on the Early 911S board.
Do you require [1]concours level of exact same type on your car? [2] Period correct? [3] Whatever is nicest, even if decades later? Also, what do people think about the sliverknit (I think that is the right spelling, rather than the also used silverknit)? I'd like something that is not as dark as black - the cockpit is just a black hole in the winter up here.

Randy, Your questions are definitly important, so in that sense, there may need to be a few answers.
1. for concours level 2. Period correct 3. nice stuff! worked well, no problems. And does the same criterial apply for the trunk? I think mine might have horse-hair backing, which probably is no longer available.
