917 at Harrods of Knightsbridge
I happened to be at Harrods on Monday and came across a 917 in the window. It evidently was one of the cars in Le Mans.
Do any of our anglophone brothers have any more information about this car? My time with it was very short, but it appeared to be in unrestored original condition.

No kidding. I'm hoping one our London brothers will see this and stop by Harrods and snap a few pictures. I didnt' have my camera.

Wil, it wasn't for sale, it was on display as part of a TAG-Heuer promotion. Those funny square Steve McQueen watches, etc.
Dean, no kidding, the food halls are unlike anything we have in the USA, you go in the place and you are transported back in time. 4.5 acres, over one million feet of selling space. Unbelievable. I think the London guys are arriving home, maybe one of them will see this thread.

My mistake...thought it might be for sale....would be nice the know the build-number anyway. From that we'd know a bit more about the history.

Wil, I wish I had my camera. It was a short tail, no fins, gulf blue livery, clearly a UK car because of the Porsche Club GB sticker on the front, had a business card taped to the cockpit roof, unrestored condition with plenty of bruises. The promo said it was one of the actual cars used in the movie "Le Mans."
I couldn't believe, not having seen a short-tail in person before, how small it was. In the movie it always seems large, but in fact it's not much bigger than a 911 in person.

I agree on the small-ness. I got to see "several" 917's battling it out on the Ring last year in a vintage event... lotsa damage too  ..917's collide at the 'Ring but the car is incredibly "small".... - Wil
