Ignition switch problem / replacement?
Had a recent no-start problem,
with the starter motor not turning at all. before this, over the past few months - if the headlamps are already on when I turn the ignition to start the engine - the headlamps/sidelamps will switch off, and then back on as the ignition key is turned. Does this mean ( or is it likely ) that the ignition switch is worn out? 101 projects 'suggests' you can replace the electrical bit of the ignition without needing to remove the whoel igniton ( and break off bolts ) from the dash anyone tried this? Any suggestions - other than have very small, and bendy joints in your arms?? |
I tried it, and succeeded...What is not mentioned in the 101 projects book, is that when you have loosened the, (I think its a 13mm nut) on the steering lock, there is a (I believe 5mm) allen set screw that is threaded through that 13mm nut. the set screw needs to be backed out to some extent, before the mechanism will come out. The rest is fairly straight forward.

In my yellow wire gremlin trek, I replaced the ignition switch and it made no difference with my no start. It was an unpleasant job. Check the extensive threads on the yellow wire to starter phenomenon.
Solved my no start with a Hi torque starter- after replacing everything else, and trying all of the remedies offered in the threads. It's all good stuff to check out though. |
