Sunroof and wind question

My manual says not to have the sunroof open over something like 65mph because it can damage a wind retainer spring.

The wife always wants the sunroof open when we are driving and we are frequently over 65.

Does anyone regularly use the sunroof at freeway speeds (let's say 68-85)?

thanks for any experience information.

erik

I used to leave it open all the time (until I put a roll bar in). I was under the impression you shouldn't operate it at higher speeds (open or close it).

My owner's manual states " Do not operate at driving speeds exceeding 62 mph. The force to overcome the wind resistance at higher speeds may cause damage to the sunroof".

I keep mine open at "higher speeds" without ill effects. Sounds like an opening and closing issue.

I had the sunroof open at 85 and the woman I was driving with was sucked right out of the car.

Now I keep it closed on the freeway, no problems since.

Sounds like you weren't too upset.

Thanks guys, I may have misread that it could not be open at all at higher speeds. I will count this as one possible bonding point between my wife and the car.

I had it closed while pulled over in a state park while the woman I was with sucked...

Oh crap, I thought this was OT!

Never mind.
