RPM's
Quick question, when you're on the highway going approximately 80MPH, is it better for the health of the engine to be revving in the mid 3's in 5th gear, or should the car be shifted into 6th. gear lowering the RPM's to the high 2's.
In other words should the car be kept in higher revs for long drives?

I think the 993 will be OK in 6th since the engine is larger and has a better low end than the older cars.

You're fine unless the RPM's fall too much and you being to 'lug' the engine,

How about 80 mph at around 4,000 to 4,500 RPM in 5th gear with a 915?
I've been playing around with some gearing and found some nice combinations for my 915. But I wonder if top gear might stress out my engine after long periods of time if the engine is at 4,500 RPM.

I lost 5th gear Sunday. I ran at around 4000 RPM's in 4th for about 20 miles. No harm done....so far. It strange to hear the engine that high in the band without being able to shift to 5th. Gobs of freakin' torque out of my 3.0, though. Instant passing power.
