911 Seat Question?? Pls advise

Hello..

I hope somebody can help me with a seat swapping question.

A friend of mine is giving me his 98 Boxter seats. Will this fit on my 84 Carrera??? Would love to have a newer power seat in my old torn up one.

Would appreciate any inputs.

Thanks
Onsse

Hey Onsse,

Nope, not without a lot of fabrication work. It can be done, but not easily.

I am PM'ing you about a DME lead......

It's not that hard! There is a thread with the directions I have provide for another member, I'll see if if can locate it and provide the link.

Great seats if you don't mind drilling a couple of holes.

The directions as promised....computer challenged copying the link today..

My vehicle is an ‘83SC and I am not sure of any differences in the frame body the seats mount to. I am 5’9” and the directions provided will give you a good range of the seat. The seat I used had a manual slider and an electrical seat back. The adjusting mechanisms are closest to the door.

The fist thing is the Boxster seats will not line up with the factory seat mounting holes. If drilling is a problem stop reading now.

The Boxster seats have a high frame in 2 parts. The only part of the seat frame we used was the slider hardware. The bottom of the slider hardware will be bolted directly to the seat frame of the car.

1. Center your seats. The first bolt, driver side, left front (a 10mm harden steel bolt with nut and lock washer) was used and positioned 1.75” from the front of the seat mounting frame. I installed the bolt through the angled metal on the seat frame and flattened flush to the frame of the seat frame of the car.

2. I installed the second bolt on the same side to the rear of the seat frame where it will not interfere with the slider. On mine the rear bolt is about ½” from the end of the seat frame. The slider did over hang 3-4”. No-one rides in the rear seats of my car so I haven’t thought about it until now.

3. The inside bolts are harder to align because the actual seat gets in the way. Be sure to keep the seat square and the mounting spots will identify them selves.

4. To power the seats (ground the brown wire to one of the seat bolts) the red wire needs a power supply. I used a blank fuse spot in the front trunk fuse box. I suppose you could use the power supply of the cigarette lighter or stereo if needed.

Seach by my name, not many posts, and the link will identify itself. A fellow Pelican has a link with some photos.

Give yourself the weekend to do the job. The learning curve is quick on the other seat. I did not use the Boxster seat frames because I was elevated way too high.

Hi Mookster,

I was able to install the passenger side today... Not too hard, just made some adjustments.

Now - on the Driver seat, there's a hydraulic thingamagic under the seat. Question is will this interfere with the DME underneath the driver's seat??? hmmmm ... I'm just wondering if I need to make an adjustment to the height of the boxter seats... to fit.

Well anyway.. thanks for the response..

I had the Lamda control unit under my passenger seat. No problems with any clearences. (6inx6inx3in.)

As I stated before, My electric seat was only for the seat back. I had to manually adjust forward and back on the slider. If your seat has more controls then described, I cannot comment.

My Boxster seats would lay flat on the concrete on the sliders. If yours do not I am unsure why. The only thing I can think of is your seat may have more power functions then mine did. Test fit or photo the problem so the Board can help.

If adjustments to the directions are needed for a more powered seat advise this Board.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Yey hee yaheeiy !!! uggh!!... hahahhahah.

I got both seats in... man do they feel good... and not much drilling... I only drilled the 2 front holes on the boxter's railings.....
thanks for the coaching Mookstah...

Very comfy... :-) . Do you know how much I can get for my old seats??? The foam is still good and the passenger side is perfect, no tears.. On the driver side however, the stitching on the right side has given up... about 7 inches opening to expose the foam..

Anyway - thanks again

When I did my Boxster seat install (with great help from mookster), I sold my cork leather sport seats for $700 for the pair. They were in great shape........I sold my vinyl non-sport seats that were beat up a bit for $35......
Value is all timing........

Good luck,
Chris

If you don't care about being original the Bosxster seats are a great upgrade.

My SC seats were in such bad shape they had no value.

I am glad the project went smoothly.
