Porsche Crest Price Check, 74 RSR Tub

There is a real 1974 RSR tub on the market, it is very rough, crashed and rusted, really only the front clip with the vin is any good, but it is a real RSR, was owned by a very well known race shop from the 70s & 80s. Any idea on a fair value on this. No pix yet, should get some in a few weeks.

Byron, you may want to ask John Starkey, the author of several books on RS & RSR's. Just google him and you'll find him. He's a Brit who lives in Florida now. Actually sells & brokers sales on RSR's. He provides authentication services and I'm sure he could put a number on it's value. Otherwise, maybe call a few high end shops that work on real RSR's and ask them (Gunnar Racing, Auto Associates, etc.). Good luck.

Great, thanks for the lead. Kevin already knows about the tub.

Starkey will tell you 200K and then go buy it for 5K. (obviously I'm a skeptic)

Make an offer and see what happens.

I'd say less than 10K but more than 5K ... if it's as bad as you say.

I would say it all depends on who knows about it. I can see somebody buying it to rebuild all the way and vintage race it or sell it. Quite a few of the body panels from a 911 could be used to restore and many people would tackle a job like that. Real 74 RSR's go for $200k and up so depending on the history and what comes with it {title, log book or books} I would guess at least 10% of that. If you can get it for anything less I would say your doing great. Goodluck and keep us posted.
