Took muffler off and went for a ride!!!

WOW WOW WOW WOW did I mention WOW? What a sound

holy sh@t! Muffler was shot so took the exhaust off from the

SSI's. Drove to a local muffler guy with the pipe in the back seat.

When I got to the muffler place decided to just cut the old Bursch

out and weld a straight pipe in place!!!! I do not plan on keeping

it like this forever. He charged me 30 dollars, so I will leave it like

this until a new muffler is chosen. She sounds like a race car! I

was at a light, which she sounds somewhat civil at idle, and two

little yamaha crotch rockets pulled up next to me. Well one

proceded to rev his motor like "whing"" whing" . I looked over

and as I started to smile ear to ear blipped my throttle and

Whoooaaaaaahhh WHooooaaaahhhhh!!!!!!!!!! The kid nearly

fell off his bike he was so startled. The light changed and they

just watched me start to pull away before finally moving

themselves. Again I do not plan on keeping it like this forever,

but I am going to have some fun in the mean time. Maybe I will

go to a bike rally. While they are all parked and enjoying the

peaceful afternoon, I am going to park right in the middle of them

all and rev the crap out of my motor flick them off and tell them

catch me if you can>>>>>>

I've always thought it would be a lot of fun to have some sort of exhaust cut out that I could get those damn harley riders with. You know, like from a big block chevy running 11:1 compression. "Hey Jackass, you think your bike is loud and obnoxious? Try this on for size!" Enough exhaust at 6 grand to blow their helmets off.

Yeah, no muffler sounds pretty darn good.

Yes and no, admittedly is a little to loud, but for a little while will be fun. when you rev it at idle it is just sick sounding. Hard throttle is a bit obnoxious. Whatever the outcome I am smiling and enjoying life and that is more important than anything!!!!!

I received the muffler bypass that Fabspeed makes for xmas last year. You are right, it sure sounds good. I have since put my muffler back on but after reading about you having so much fun I might just have to swap it out again for a week or two.

BTDT, had a great time for about 20 min. It was so frigging loud I couldn't stand it. I did get some interesting looks from people I passed. In my neck of the woods it is a one way ticket to court.
I was cool though

Can any harm be done with this setup?motor wise? Should I adjust the timing. I have realized not realistic forever, but will have fun for a week or two. Will a several hour run on the highway do any harm? What muffler do you guys recommend with my setup? 2.7 SSI's

I can highly recommend an M&K 2-1 if you're thinking of getting a new aggressive muffler. It's 'barely there' regarding it's 'mufflage'. I can't get over how awesome my car sounds now that it has SSIs and the M&K. I wanted to keep the stock 1-tip look, so I went 2-1 instead of 2-2.

BaHaHaHAHA!! Loved the bike story.

I ran what I called the Wunderpipe for a while on my 911SC. It was a short angled pipe that exited in the stock location and was connected to the European pre-muffler. It was not obnoxious (just loud) at light throttle, but open her up and let her rev and Great Googly Moogly!!!

I personally loved overpasses and tunnels. I finally decided to remove it after a 4 hour drive to Auburn with ringing ears as a result.

I went with an M&K 2 in 2 out with where 1 outlet can be capped off to lessen the sound by about 10dB. I'd recommend it.

I ran the same thing for many months on my '88. It was great until I had to replace everything except the catalytic converter. Yes, I wondered about the weight of all of that stuff hanging there, but it seemed pretty sturdy until both heat exchangers and the crossover pipe cracked. I guess I should have fashioned a hanger.

It's even more fun when the uncorked car you're in has a smallblock in it with enough HP to put a serious whoopin' on 'em!

I don't miss much about my drag racing days but I do miss the sound of those open headers, maybe that's why I've got twin straight thru 2.5" Walker Dynomaxes on my 911

Basically straight thru mufflers, perforated core with fiberglass matting. There's a pic on my Pelican page, the silver ones.

So how would you describe the sound of your exhaust? I took a little longer drive , with the straight pipe and it is totally obnoxious at rpm's. I will get pulled over in the erea I live in. So still looking for a muffler.

Given your current setup and the relatively low cost of the Dynomax I'd be tempted to weld one in there just to see if you like it. 2 into 1 will definately be quieter than my 2 in 2 out. My car is loud at RPM but acceptable, no louder than a musclecar with aftermarket mufflers at RPM, however the sound is much sweeter IMO. Also the longer the tail pipe you use the quieter it will be as these mufflers are designed for use with a tailpipe.

Can't imagine how loud that'd be ! I once took the muffler of my 356A for repairs, and the thing sounded so loud I didn't think I'd make it around the block before the cops arrested me. And that was a puny 1.6L flat 4 !
