Clutch Binding
I am going to try to explain this as best as I can, but I am not sure how good of a job I am going to do. There is a shaft that goes up into the trans on my 1986 930. It looks like a pivot point or somthing like that in the trans for the clutch. When you press in the cultch, this piece of course rotates inside the housing. Now, I am having an issue with binding in my clutch. I have replaced the clutch cable, the clutch is perfectly in adjustment, and all the springs seem to be good. I have had two opinions on what is causing the binding. One person said that they think that shaft could be bent and causing the binding. Has anyone heard of this happening? The other opinion is that it could be the pedal assembly. With everything unhooked from the pedal assembly, it seems to work fine without binding. But so does everything on the trans. I am not really sure where the binding would be comming from. The porsche guy I talked to who did all the adjustments claims that you would have to pull the motor and trans to replace that shaft. I dont really see why you would have to do that, and I am also not convinced that is what is causing the problem. One of the biggest mysteries to the problem is that it comes and goes, you would think if it was a bent shaft, you would get the same binding every time. It is a really irritating problem and I would like to get it fixed as soon as possible.
Any Ideas?

I am having a similar issue with my G50 tranny. Somedays it shifts like cutting through hot butter and sometimes I cannot under any circumstances get it to go into 1st or reverse. It comes and goes. Really annoying. perhaps someone can answer and help us both.

I was having the same problem 2 yrs. ago.
Replaced the pedal assm. bushings, clutch cable, return spring, trying to find the problem. It turned out to be the T/O bearing and clutch arm. Had to pull motor, so I replaced the clutch. Hope that's not your problem. Good Luck
