Retrofit O2 system on ROW 84 911

I have a grey market 84 911 and I'm struggling with a lean condition. Is it possible to retrofit the O2 system into the existing Motronic system? I believe the O2 box is supposed to be under the passenger seat, true? Have the cat with O2 sensor installed but not wired. Is this worth the trouble?

Thanks in advance.

Doug

If you are struggling with a lean condition then by adding an 02 sensor you will most likely have the same lean problem with the added complication of the 02 sensor circuit.

Is there any way to fix the problem before you make it more complicated?

Are you certain it is running lean? What's it doing?

Good point. When in for service (poor low end, bad cold idle) the wrench suggested a lean condition. He mentioned that the O2 is not necessary but if I wanted to "track" the car, I should add the O2 circuit to prevent too lean condition at speed.

Anyone running track events w/ a Motronic w/o the O2?

Is the O2 really necessary or is that a smog thing. Always thought O2 allow cars to run leaner.

This is my first 911. I have alot to learn.

Thanks, Doug

"to prevent too lean condition at speed"

I think your P-wrench might not fully understand that the Motronic on an 02 equiped Carrera will revert to open loop at speed which I interpret as wide open throttle anyway, so adding an 02 sensor would be a waste of time and money.

As long as detonation is not a problem then it's probably running just fine even for the track events.

It's hard for me to believe that adding an 02 sensor will improve or prevent some lean running problem on a car with an injection system that was not designed to have one.

Cheers,

Joe Garcia
