koni struts or just shocks?

I have a 76 911, with Konis front and rear (red). I figured it would be a no-brainer to order replacements, but just realized that with the boge struts, you can replace the shock with that of many different manufacturers: Koni, Bilstein, KYB, etc....

Is it possible that I have the boge strut setup and sometime down the line, someone replaced the shocks with Konis?

Am I missing something here? Is there a simple visual que or do I just need to record the numbers off of the shocks and cross-reference?

Thank you.

You should just replace the shock inserts. This will restore all function of your front strut assemblies and give you an improved ride quality over your old setup.

It is possible that someone changed them to Koni's and you have a Boge pair of struts housings. Koni's are reddish-orange, Boge's are black, and Bilsteins are green or yellow(these have a roll pin towards the bottom of the sturt that holds the insert in).

#'s on the shock will tell you a lot, just compare them to what pelican has in their catalog. Most likely at least 4 of the #'s will match pelicans and you'll know what you've got.

I would suggest Koni sports with external adj. knobs if your looking for a shock of upgraded performance.

The thing is, you have to remove the shock insert to see what kind/color you have; Koni, Boge, Bilstein, KYB or ??

The threads on the strut tube are another giveaway, but someone with better observation skills than I can advise you if Koni strut housings have finer or coarser threads than Boge or Bilsteins.
