Hi guys,

well after trying to figure out a way to own two of the marques fine examples I have almost come to the conclusion one must go to have the other so.. I wanted to get some "expert" advice before making my final decision. I have a 1966 911, # 300720, polo red, correct engine/gearbox, mostly original except for some odds and ends here and there. I am completing the rear suspension rebuild, all new bushings, shocks, T bars, stripped to bare metal in the engine compt.. and alot of while you were in there items. interior carpet has been pulled, pedal cluster rebuilt, floors appear original and are decent save for the common "Dents" from mean jacks over the years. I have por 15'd the floors and there will be new carpet installed with the rubber floors. original radio, steering wheel, Porsche CofA, clear title, original owners manual, complete OEM manuals, wood steering wheel in great shape, original seats plus new corbeau vintage seats. new bursch sport muffler, original included. Engine rebuilt professionally about 5-6 years ago, all receipts from that as well as most from previous owner and all from my ownership. I could go on but you get the idea. Not a concours car be any stretch BUT I believe a very solid well cared for early survivor that will be looking for a new home very soon. Any thoughts from reading the description and looking at the pics on price I should shoot for on this sale. thank you in advance, first for all of your guys advice on the projects over the years and second on your input for the sale. I look forward to many years of future Porsche car ownership with the next baby that arrives. Thank you.

The early car market has been going up rapidly over the last few years but may be peaking and getting a little soft at the moment, sort of paralleling the housing market. It is hard to tell a car's condition from photos, and you didn't mention condition of the paint and if it is original or not. It sounds like you have addressed any rust issues and that mechanically the car is sound. I would guess from your description that it might fetch somewhere between $15-20K. BA estimates a "good" 1966 911 at about $12K and an "excellent" one at $16K. I happen to think his numbers are low, but buyers will try to beat you down with them.

I would ask for opinions on the Early S Registry forum, and perhaps put it up for auction on Ebay with detailed pics and description and a high reserve if you really want to gauge the market value. I saw a '65 in worse condition than yours go for $12.5K on Ebay last year.

Where is the rust? That's the single biggest determinant of value.

All of the above posts, I agree with. With early car pricing, it's all about condition. But early cars have become high demand, and the SWB cars are coming into their own. The non sunroof coupes seem to be the most desirable of the lot. Are you sure you want to sell? :)

Hi all,

thanks for the posts. I have the itch to get a newer model and cannot afford both. I know I will kick myself as soon as she leaves. I am going to hold off on a final decision until I have her back on the road and drive her up to the ga mountains for awhile. Its been a year since the last drive and you know how time tends to erase your memories of the pleasures of these early cars. I was looking at getting a C2 or 89 carrera to use as a limited daily driver as I dont really like to use my 66 except for nice weekends etc.. It would be an extra ride as we have two other vehicles for the grunt work each day so... I should be getting back to her this week and will resume posting pics on my progress.. thanks again all..
