88 930 STALLING
HI, JUST THOUGHT I WOULD POST THISFOR THOSE WHO HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH 88 930 STALLING FOR NO APPARENT REASON. SEEMS THAT THERE ARE MAYBE 6 SENSORS INVOLVED ANY WHICH CAN CAUSE FUEL PUMPS TO SHUT OFF. QUICK FIX AND PART OF DIAGNOSIS IS TO GROUND THE REAR FUEL PUMP WHICH IN TURN GROUNDS THE FRT.PUMP AT PIN 85 ON THE RELAY AND AT LEAST THIS WILL GET YOU HOME.I FOUND ON MINE THAT THE SQUARE RELAY IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT DRIVES THE RELAY IN FRT. OF IT. I TOOK IT APART AND FOUND ALL OF THE BULLET CONECTORS HAD BAD SOLDER JOINT . PERHAPS BECAUSE OF VIBRATION AND HEAT RESOLDERED THE JOINTS CAREFULLY.I THINK THIS IS SOME KIND OF A TIMER RELAY??? I NOW CAN HEAR THE FUEL PUMPS COME ON WHEN THE KEY IS TURNED.I HAVE THIS GROUND ON A TOGGLE SWITCH FOR SAFETY PURPOSES. I WILL NOW TRY TO FIND THE SENSOR OR CONNECTOR AT FAULT. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATED SINCE I DO NOT HAVE A WIRING DIAGRAM. THANKS HOPES THIS HELPS SOMEONE IN THE SAME SITUATION. REGARDS RJM3 JER

There is a connector on the fuel distributor that allows the fuel pumps to run only when the engine is cranking due to the movement of the sensor plate from air moving across it. This can be tested by pushing down on the adjuster after inserting a 3mm allen wrench in the hole and with the key on you should hear both pumps run and stop when you release the allen wrench. This can stick and cause erratic starting and even erratic running.
