I can't open my gas filler door!
I know this has been asked before, but I can't get the search engine to find it.
![]() I haven't opened my gas filler door for over a year and now I can't open it. The pull has full spring tension and it sounds like it's doing something. I've pushed on the door while pulling the handle and that doesn't help either. Thanks for any help.

Thanks, that worked like a champ. The cable's not working so I've got something else to fix.

Oh and be careful if you take the latch out, what fun it is(n't) to put the little spring back in. Taught my son a whole new vocabulary while working on that little F$$k%r......

This should probably go on the "what's the stupidest thing you've ever done" thread. I guess when you don't drive your car for 28 months you forget were things are. I was pulling on the trunk release and since the trunk was wide open, nothing happened. Doh! At least I know how to open my fuel door if the cable ever breaks.
![]() BTW, if all goes well I'll try to start her tonight!

I still catch myself pulling the front hood release when I have to check the engine. I've had the car for a year now. The engine's in the back, BTW.

Since the topic came up has anyone repaired the gas door hinge? My door does not open unless I pull it open due to rust I think but mybe something else. Has anyone removed the pin for the door? Do I have to unscrew the latch or is there another way?

you have to remove the three screws holding it in and remove the whole door then in can be cleaned and the spring tightened while it's out

3 small allen screws to remove. Access inside the wheel well. You can turn the wheel enough to get room but it is much easier with the wheel off.

On a related topic...has anyone converted their long hood gas filler to a late model style. My Boxster just requires a push against one edge to open. Sure wish my long hood could do the same. The old cable style release is a PITA!

If you thought replacing the drivers-side hood latch was a pain, wait 'till you replace the spring in the gas door release mechanism. Oh yeah.
The trick I used was to assemble it with a piece as a surrogate pin, press the whole thing in and slide the pin in while holding it, but there's probably an easier way.

John, the door seems to be sticking because the hinge is rusting...I will have to remove the pin but how is that done without destroying the door? I think driving it out is the only option but I don't want to bend the door. This is the type of repair that is never covered in repair manuals.
