Need a good seat cleaner and new passenger hand grip!

I just had a bit of fun.

I drove my car to work today..nice and fine, targa top off, crisp winter air, blue sky etc. etc.

Anyway, a guy I work with 'just loves Porsches' (his own words) and obviously knows everything about them, and especially most about the legendary guards red turbo that overtook him in his mum's car when he was a lad. He knows everything, but it turns out he's never actually been in one...that's just a formality.

When I told him I was interested in getting a 911 he was so keen, but very envious..of course.

When I turn up in my 72 he was clearly disapointed. No big wheels, no fat arches nd especially no whale tail. I don't dislike these believe me, but everyone has different taste and aspirations.

He never ever asked to go for a spin..far too proud, and hates the idea of someone else driving him anywhere or having someone younger own what he doesn't. You have probably met this sort of guy.

Finally after a year (during which he had somehow come to the inescapable conclusion that my car was a four cylinder and hence not a Porsche as he knew them at all) I fortuitously get the chance to put him in the passenger seat.

What happened is obvious, as we've all experienced that absolute buzz, the howl and the heart-jumping rush a good fast drive gives us. He just DOESN'T BELIEVE IT!!!

He's overrawed with it all, so I treat him to a drive. To his credit he's a really good driver, and these sort of people really do appreciate Porsches for what they are more so than eg. my girlfriend.

He's rapt..simply can't believe how responsive etc etc etc it all is. Even tells me it beats his brother's Holden 215 hands down (a much coveted V8 Australian bruiser..kinda like a chevy sports sedan?).

I just gave him that smile that said..told you so, but you just wouldn't listen, would you??

Some people don't deserve to 'see the light', but it's just that the kind caring type within me finds it so hard to starve a hungry child......

I sort of know what you mean Matt.

I gave (one of) my boss(es) a lift home one evening, and he asked that I give it a squirt. I was happy to oblige as it had just got up to a decent temperature.

He was fairly shocked, I think, at the decent shove in the back (it is only a 2.7CIS) etc. Mind you, I think his expectation was based on the TRiumph TR6 of a similar vintage and engine capacity that he owned 5-10 years ago.

He still won't buy one though....I say it has plenty of room for his one son in the children size rear seats!
