Light Weight Flywheel

I have a '87 Carrera and I wonder has anyone installed a light weight flywheel on 911? (lighten or alumimum) Does it give better throttle response? Any top end gain, low end loss? The car majorly is driven on track. Besides, what is the proper way to install one?

I have a 91 C2 and at one point had a lite weight"cup" flywheel and clutch put in it. the upside was a dramatic increase in acceleration, I mean this thing wound up in heartbeat, very fun! The down side, at least with my car was a lot of tranny noise! At low speed (around town and such) the rattling of the gear box was frightening! I eventually went back to the upgraded dual mass assembly.

We just installed a prototype lightweight wheel in a 914/4. It uses the AP/Tilton/Quartermaster 7.25 diameter clutch. I have a design for an aluminum one. I suspect the early 911 motor can use the same wheel with a different bolt pattern. I am not sure about the later motors.
We think this will give us a lot more acceleration.

The mass of the Flywheel helps the engine
keep running at low RPM's a lighten Flywheel
on a street car can cause idle and stalling
problems in a street driven car. Just something to keep in mind...

also on the street the extra (already spinning) mass will smooth out the hills (up and down) making them less noticable, keeping the engine rpm's more steady and not making your speed control angry.

I would probably stick with the stock flywheel on the street but on the track go very light...where a fast spin up is needed and idle doesn't matter all that much.
