H4 Bulbs...

have a 911T (71)

When i upgraded to H4s, i added the HELLA H4 55/60 Watt Replacement Bulbs without modifying the existing wiring.

Is it safe to use for instance H4's "CONSUMING 60/55W --> PRODUCING 130/110W (4,350K)" or
"9006 bulbs which are 12V 55w PRODUCING = 80w"

or do i have to change the wiring and add relays for their use...

in order to get brighter lights?

bulbs

I would recommend putting in the relays no matter what bulbs you run. the current going through the lighting stalk is very high and the relays reduce that load.

i bought 4 used porsche round relays, 4 used sockets , 4-15 amp fuses, some 10 gauge wire, some heat shrink end compression fittings and spent about 2 hours installing them. The relay sockets fit right into the holes in the fuse case (looks nice). put a compression fitting on each wire to the battery terminal. put 15 amp in line fuses. cost? 50?

the lights are super bright and the reduced power through the light stock cannot hurt. i am getting 80/100w to run and curently have standard. one of the best things i did to the car.

do a search someone also sells a non-porsche relay setup that a lot of people use.. it is not expensive at all. i just wanted to use the stock relays.

I am using some Japanese H4 bulbs that make the same claim (blue-white, 60/55 = 130/110, etc) They are brighter than the stock 60/55 bulbs, but that might well be the temperature (color) of the bulbs rather than some magic Xenon. I've had no ill effects and I'm running them with the stock wiring. I suspect that name brand real 80/130 watt bulbs would actually be brighter, but I will certainly put relays on them if I go that route. Anyone made that comparison here? I am currently reading this: http://danielsternlighting.com/tech/relays/relays.html well written article.

The other issue beyond the possibility of too much current passing throught the switch, is the voltage loss from running through stock wiring. Just installing the relays with heavier wiring to the headlamps will substantially increase light output with a given bulb.

I'm installing a pre-fabricated wiring harness with relays in my 944 that will use E-code Hella H4 housings and 90W/130W Hella Yellow Star H4 bulbs, I'm looking forward to being able to create my own daylight!
