Fuchs - who can make this size?
 
I suppose I should call a number of the usual suspects - but thought I'd ask:

I think I might want 8"x15" Fuchs in an offset compatible with front application on a RS/SC/Carrera bodied car. i.e. an 8" rim with around a 25mm offset.

Anyone done this? Or know of it being possible?

I have known Jim and his dad Charlie (90 and still at it with Miatas) for 40 years. Jim does great work! Recently a Pelican friend had some 6x16 Fuchs converted to 7.25x16 with his exact offset for an original fender ’73. They are beautiful and appear as an original 7x15.

If you are going to run close, you are going to want to first experiment with spacers for offset and the exact rim width. Even with static clearance on the inside, you will have some rubbing in dynamic situations. Your goal is to determine what is tolerable. You can’t have any significant contact on the outside without damaging the paint.

When “pushing the limit” it is useful to carefully roll the fender lip in the front. The issue is the corner of the tire contacting the fender on cornering at about 30-45° forward of the top of the wheel opening.

You need to keep in mind changes with tire size/brand, alignment, ride height and suspension deflection.

If your trying to move the wheel in you might try a 912 hub w/longer studs. It's 1/2" narrower than a 911. I used a 912 hub & 944 8x16 which gave me about 1" inward. To get everythng to work I removed the shock cover and used a 1/4 spacer to locate the wheel. This allowed me to run 245 Hoosiers on the front of my '73 targa w/stock fender with the lip rolled. I was also using 930 brakes. The two clearance uses are the tire rubbing the shock and the wheel rubbing the caliper.

Why the need to go this route? It appears that the use of the 944 offset 8x16 is pretty common.

Without revealing too much of my plan for world domination I think I'm contemplating similar end results - I'm looking for 225/245 on the smallest dia. rim that still provides an optimal width. I was currently assuming that if folks can make 8x16 and 8x17 work (with up to 245s), why not 8x15.....except that in addition to lower weight penalties the smaller diameter wheels should afford me the ability to maintain a lower ride height with greater wheel to fender clearance.

Right? or am I confused (again).:confused:

A 944 8x16 ('86 turbo 1 yr only) has approx. 1/2" more backspace than a 911 8x15 or 8x16. Also the back side webbing is different in that it has more caliper clearence. If your using anything other than the 944 wheel you won't clear. I offer the 912 hub idea as an alternative to having a custom wheel made.

Bill V - shouldn't a 15x8 with 23mm offset fit with standard hubs and rolled fenders?

25-31 would be better but many are using the 23.3
