Suitable engine lift on sale at can tire?

This is on sale at for $59 (1/2 price.

My question is: as it does not rise or lower vertically (as in not dead straight) going to be an issue?

It looks like it has wheels front & back, so I 'spose you could move it back as the engine came down.

You really need 4 wheels to do the job right. If you can add front wheel cheap then it would be a good deal. It's going to suck in a major way to move that without four wheels once you get the engine weight on it.

I should go look, but it appers to have wheels or rollers at the front.

That's exactly the one I used. It has 4 wheels on it. Worked well, used 2 4x4 blocks on it.

there is another style on trans jack that lays flat completely(the bottle and the handle). The type that is posted, the handle and jack is fixed.

Whenever I use mine to install my VW or Porsche engines, this gives me issues. The bumper is in the way because of the handle.

Bolt a 2 ft x 3 ft 1/2 inch piece of plywood to the lift arms. This will fully support the engine and trans axle as it is removed and reinstalled. No danger of falling.
I have found it necessary to temporarily lift the body with a separate jack to clear the alternator and intake assembly, after the engine/trans has been pulled rearward out of the tunnel.
I use a 1 ft x 2 ft x 1/2 inch piece of plywood against the underside to lift the car the additional few inches to clear the motor. Of course the front wheels are chalked safely in position.
Simple and safe.

dagriff, what is the max lifting height on that jack? Also, do you know the spacing of the lifting arms?

Thanks.

There is a scissor lift at princess auto. I think it goes on sale regularly I was limiting myself to one tool purchase a month and I picked up an engine stand so I passed on the lift. Anyway I hope it will go on again. I think it would also work well.
