Driver door stop anchor

Need advice on the door stop anchor (between the door hinges) as the welds are "popping loose". The anchor is now positioned all the way to the left on the driver side. Is this hard to fix and has anyone ever tackled this job? Have been poking around the area and is there a multi connector where I can disconnect the wires that goes into the door so I can take the door off?
Thanks in advance for any help with this matter.

George

I recently took off my drivers door to replace my door stop. Here is some advice.

1.) the workshop manuals advise knocking out the hinge pins with a special Porsche tool. The price of this tool is astronomical ($200) for what is in effect a slide hammer. Instead I removed the 6 hinge bolts attaching the hinges to the body, carefully marking the outline of the hinges on the body for reinstallment. Worked like a charm.

2.) I had 3 wire groups passing between the body and the door (I suspect they were power windows, power mirrors and speaker wires). The speaker wires I disconnected from the speakers within the doors (after removing the inside door cover). Follow the larger of the wire bundles (power windows?) to where it enters the left hand fender and you will find it is actually connected to the fender by a multi-connector plug that is easily pried off. The medium sized wire (power mirrors?) I had to follow into the trunk compartment where it is connected to a main wire bundle by a disconnectable plug near the right hand (looking into the trunk)hinge .

3) The sheet metal that the door stop was connected to had split vertically through both bolt holes that hold the stop to the door. The wisest thing would be to weld the split metal back together. As a temporary solution I installed some large diameter O.D. washers one either side of the bolt holes and re-installed the door stop ( I had to grind the edge of the washers to turn them from a circular shape to a "D" shape so they would not interfere with the door stop mechanism.

4) reinstall the door

Good Luck

Thank you very much, Chuck, as I have this procedure in my future. Mine has ripped the door sheet metal!

Someone (Pelican?) makes a reinforcing fixture. I plan to get one, and weld it into place, fixing the ripped area at the same time.

FWIW, I plan to get some of that heat dissipating putty stuff and use LOTS of it to help protect agains warpage due to heat transfer into other parts of the door structure, such as that outside body panel.

Are there any welders out there who can coment on this danger of warping stuff from the heat of welding? I'm not an expereinced welder.
