Exhaust Leaks!
Hi, Have a couple of good exhaust leaks that I really need to attend to on the '85 3.2. It's got really noisy after a good run & some hill work. I have been told it's not a good idea to drive in this condition.
One leak is at the bolted up joint between the muffler & pre-muffler which looks reasonably easy to get at. Probably needs a new gasket. The other is at the driver's side of the crossover pipe from the rh heat exchanger, where the pipe seems to 'fit inside' rather than bolt up to the pipe near the joint above the lh heat exchanger. Does this have a gasket inside? it looks like it has had some muffler fixing compound smeared in there at some stage to fix the leak, which has now come out. Also, does the lh heat exchanger have to be removed to remove the crossover pipe? I don't really want to touch this if I don't have to, but there does not look like there is much clearance to the underside of the engine. After searching I found a lot of info on sports exhausts & SSI etc... but not much on 'patching up' our old original stuff... new 'brand name' exhaust systems are not cheap in NZ. Thanks in advance for any help!
